Go Getaways for the Thrill Seekers

2024 might be the year of the great ‘Recharge’ but 2025 is seeing the rise of ‘Go Getaways,’ an adventure of your life to seek thrills and unique experiences during your days off.
In the Hilton Trends Report 2025, which involves surveys and interviews with 13,000 travelers from 13 countries, 4,100 Hilton staff, and multiple Hilton travel experts, the insight showed that:
- 76% of respondents look for accommodations that can offer a variety of experiences during their stay
- 69% of travelers enjoy staying active during their trips
- 1 in 4 travelers look for unique experiences when planning their trips
- 20% are looking for outdoor adventures
However, adventure does not mean rafting your way down a whitewater ravine or bungee jumping off a cliff all the time.
In April 2024, Hilton recorded spikes in bookings for properties in the ‘Path of Totality,’ locations across the United States where travelers can witness the 2024 total solar eclipse.
Travelers are also seeking adventure as a family. Hilton’s survey showed that 37% of travelers go on vacations with their parents, while two in five have extended family members joining them on their trip.
An adventure destination that can offer once-in-a-lifetime experiences for family members of all ages is among the sought-after for trip planners.
Press Snooze with ‘Sleep Tourizzzm’

Adventure tourism may be on the rise, but travelers of the world can still get more sleep. In their 2025 trends report, Hilton found the trend of sleep retreats still going strong with two in five travelers looking for hotels that can give them a good night’s sleep.
Actually, there is a term for this.
‘Hurkle-Durkling’ is a Scottish phrase meaning ‘to linger in bed long after it’s time to get up.’ One in five travelers reported enjoying hurkle-durkling on their vacation, whether in the comfort of their guestroom or on the lounger by the beach.
The younger generations (the Millennials and Gen Z) especially enjoy this, with around 30% of Millennials and Gen Z reporting their preference for staying in bed compared to 11% of Baby Boomers and Gen X.
Travelers also actively make sure that they can have a good night’s rest with 70% of luxury travelers seeking hotels with sleep-centric amenities and one in four travelers looking for spa and wellness programs to enhance their relaxation.
Relieve the Good Old Days with Time Travel

Vacations can be a great time to relive the golden moments of your life as well as cherish those moments with your loved ones, and this is among the most-cited reasons for leisure travel in the U.S. according to Hilton.
While some travelers may be seeking a once-in-a-lifetime experience in a destination never before seen, 58% are also on the path to revisit their childhood travel destinations with another 49% revisiting the same destination year after year.
Properties that could provide extra experience to some of the iconic pop culture moments are also enjoying increasing popularity. These include the introduction of the Alddin’s Times Square Palace Suite and the Lion King’s Royal Suite to celebrate the performance of both musicals on Broadway.
Savor Life with Slow Travel

Continuing the trend of the Great Recharge, travelers are looking for opportunities to slow down and savor the joy of their lives. This has led to the trend of ‘slow travel’ where travelers are more willing to explore minor cities and truly immerse themselves in local culture.
As much as 74% of travelers look for recommendations from the locals on their trip. This trend also encompasses travelers with children, with 73% of travelers looking for authentic local experiences when they are traveling with children.
